Civic Works Brief

A weekly operating snapshot for the East Channel quay, flood gate retrofit, market pier utilities, and public promenade work scheduled through summer 2027.

Updated June 16, 2026 Program budget $42.8M Next council review July 9

Current focus

Flood gate foundations move into night pours

Crews are shifting concrete placement to overnight windows to keep freight access open during the day. The change protects the market pier delivery route while letting inspectors complete the first lift by Friday.

Workstreams

Four sites moving at different speeds

East Channel quay

Sheet pile welding is complete on the north face. Fender bracket layout starts after the survey crew confirms embed plate tolerances.

Market pier utilities

Water service tie-in is ready, but communications ducts require potholing and revised trench protection before heavy excavation returns.

Flood gate retrofit

Foundation pours have the tightest float. Inspection, testing, and cure time now define the critical path for the July hardware delivery.

Public promenade

Landscape mockups are approved. Stone seating and rail lighting can proceed once the temporary pedestrian switchback is striped.
